Overview
Brachism is a condition in which the upper and lower teeth are unnecessarily in contact with each other, such as unintentionally clenched or rubbed against each other. Some occur when awake during the day, while others occur while asleep.Gliding is the one that rubs against each other in the lateral direction, and cringing is the one that bites the upper and lower teeth tightly.Gliding is common during sleep, and cringing can be done unconsciously even during the day.In a relaxed state, there is a gap between the upper and lower teeth, so they do not touch each other except during meals or conversations, but when the upper and lower teeth are touched by grinding or clenched teeth, the teeth and jaw are strained for a long time.Stress is said to be the cause, but details are not known.cause
In the past, it was believed to be caused by bad teeth alignment and bad meshing, but recently it has been denied and is said to be caused by various factors such as stress. It is not currently known in detail what mechanisms occur. Also, when you are light asleep due to drinking or stress, it is easy to grind your teeth during sleep.Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome also causes sleep to become shallow. It is said that reflux esophagitis and tooth grinding are also related.symptom
Gliding, which rubs teeth together, makes crunchy, crunchy, and clicking sounds, so people around you often notice it when they point it out.Crenting is the type of person who unconsciously clenches his teeth during the day and makes it difficult for him to notice it.It was not uncommon for him to be conscious of the fact that he had clenched his teeth and had engaged them. There are many cases in which you notice any type of tooth grinding only when symptoms of jaw arthrosis such as jaw pain appear, or when a dentist points out that your teeth are worn out.Symptoms include abnormally worn teeth and heavy loads on muscles and jaw joints related to chewing, which can cause jaw pain and dullness.Strong force can lead to chipping of teeth, removing fillings, and worsening periodontal disease.Headaches and stiff necks can also occur chronically.examination and diagnosis
As for grinding your teeth during sleep, check whether you feel stiffness or pain in your jaw when you wake up in the morning, or if you have been told by people around you that you are grinding your teeth.Furthermore, it examines the degree of tooth wear, whether there is excessive development of jaw bones, whether there are signs of pressing teeth on the inside of the tongue or cheek, and whether gills are stretched.Check if you have jaw arthropathy or if your periodontal disease has worsened. If sleep apnea syndrome or reflux esophagitis are suspected, detailed examinations may be necessary at specialized institutions.treatment
For grinding teeth during sleep, a method of preventing the upper and lower teeth from directly touching each other by wearing a mouthpiece called night guard (sprint method) is common. It can also reduce the pressure on the teeth and jaws, prevent tooth wear and tear, and reduce the risk of getting the fillings. If irregular or unstable lifestyle habits or sleeping conditions are considered to be a factor in worsening tooth grinding, consider improving them. When it comes to grinding teeth during the day, there is a way for patients to be aware of themselves by posting a note to call attention to grinding teeth in a conspicuous place.precautions after prevention/treatment
During the day, I often bite my teeth unconsciously when I′m concentrating on something or when I use a computer or smartphone. When you notice a tooth bite, release the upper and lower teeth and loosen the tension in your jaw.It is also important to relax your body and mind and relieve stress by stretching before going to bed and breathing slowly. To improve your sleep quality, be careful not to drink too much or drink too much caffeine.
